The funeral for a Louisiana black man fatally shot by police will be held Friday in Baton Rouge.
It was also revealed last night that Mark Hughes, a gun-toting protester who was wrongly identified as one of the shooters in the Dallas bloodbath, has gone into hiding after getting hundreds of death threats.
Moore said his decision was “one of the hardest” in his career.
Protesters wanted to come inside city hall and start a sit-in, but Baton Rouge police and security officers did not let them inside.
Sterling’s death, followed by the fatal shooting of another black man, Philando Castile, 32, near St. Paul, Minnesota, revived a wave of protests over police treatment of minorities that has swirled for two years and given rise to a movement called Black Lives Matter. Symbol of the pacifist protest, her identity remains unconfirmed.
Traffic on Interstate 40 was blocked in both directions for hours after hundreds of angry Black Lives Matter protesters marched onto the bridge to show their anger about police killings of unarmed Black people. “That’s what we’re here to do, to make sure they’re safe and they’re able to do that”.
“The police can’t charge into your house without a warrant, even if they have reason to believe that you have committed a crime”, says Esman. “I promise that we will not rest until justice prevails”.
“Please be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid crowded places when possible”, the UAE embassy said in a statement that urged people to stay away from any United States demonstrations.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana said Monday that Baton Rouge police “used violent, militarized tactics on groups of people who have gathered peacefully in protest of Alton Sterling’s killing”. “Protesters/marchers have been nothing but peaceful today in Baton Rouge”.
“They didn’t have any problems out there”.
After a lengthy stand-off, more police in full riot gear moved in, pinning some of the protesters as others fled.
“In our state and throughout our country, peaceful protest can be a force for good”, the governor said.
Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie was asked about the arrests.
Baton Rouge Police Lt. Jonny Dunham said the demonstrators were arrested for previously trying to enter an interstate on-ramp: “Once you’ve broken the law, there is no safe space”.
When she gave no sign she would be moving, an officer said, “Arrest her”, and a crack opened in the wall of riot police.
The officers in heavy riot gear appear to be reeling backwards from her.
“They had several opportunities to get out of the road, to disperse”.
