During the Television Critics Association’s press tour, the outlet talked with Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden about the possibility of the X-Men universe leaping onto television – be it through a cable network or a digital platform such as Netflix. However, non-mutant-related comic book characters like Captain America, Iron Man or Thor are completely off limits as they’re still owned by Marvel Studios.

This is probably a serious mess of rights battles; however, it seems that 20th Century Fox is not in the business of giving up the rights to X-Men anytime soon.
“We’re in negotiations with Marvel”, Walden revealed to the press.
What do you hope to see from an “X-Men” live action TV show?
“We’re in negotiations with Marvel”, she said. “This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox”. Its still unclear what the potential series will be about. If only it could use this as a bargaining chip to get some control over the X-Men movies.

As for who might be involved, we have 24 executive producers Evan Katz and Many Coto would be teaming with JD Payne and Patrick McKay (currently working on a new Flash Gordon movie, and who did some work on an earlier draft of Star Trek Beyond). That will hinge on whether Fox can seal the deal with Marvel. “We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce something soon”. That means there’d be no connection to Disney’s animated Marvel shows or ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. Combined with the DC Comics airing across three networks, this X-Men project would be just one more superhero series for both fans and general audiences to enjoy should it move forward.
