The ‘Ghostbusters’ Reviews Are Actually Positive – But the Internet Doesn’t Understand How

So if you’re a fan of the new Ghostbusters, know that the home video release of the film will be packed with extras and an even longer cut of the film, so there’s plenty more joy to be found. All of the principal cast (except for Ramis, who died in 2014, and to whom the film is dedicated) pop up in cameos, as do three secondary actors (two made of flesh and bone, the other from sugar and gelatin) – cloying appearances that have become de rigueur in remakes but that here especially highlight the timidity of Feig’s project. It receives 2,000 likes and over 4,000 dislikes on YouTube, with comments decrying the film for portraying the male receptionist as a stereotypical dumb but attractive blonde.

The mere idea of one Ghostbusters movie starring four women has been the bane of existence for some hysterical men online over the last two years. Whether the film is good or not, these trailers and TV spots have done absolutely nothing for me, personally. “I mean it’s disappointing”. “The movie is a comedy, an entertaining comedy, but it is also now a real important part of the social conversation and you don’t usually get to do both of those things”. And if the early reviews are any indication (as of this writing it now sits at a fresh rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes), this film may be better than many are expecting.

“[The] pieces are in place”.

Here’s how I judge a movie like Ghostbusters: I laughed.

But it does bend over backwards, nearly to a distracting extent, to introduce winks, nudges and nods to the original.

The 2016 edition of “Ghostbusters” is not a sequel or a remake per se.

Barry Hertz from The Globe and Mail gave a lot of praise towards the reboot.

Ever since Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot was announced, there’s been WAY too much controversy over the female leads.

Directed by Paul Feig, whose previous hits include 2011’s Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters reunites that film’s stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, alongside fellow Saturday Night Live alumni Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. “The season when everyone jumps onboard (whee!) and agrees that, yes, this great goof is exactly what you were thinking when you wondered why they didn’t make summer movies like they used to”.

Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Melissa McCarthy answer the question of “who ya gonna call” when you need a cast for a “Ghostbusters” reboot.

This movie is a nice vindication for producer Amy Pascal, too.

They’re mixed, but given the wave of green bile spewed over the past year or so in response to a film no one had yet seen, they could have been a lot worse.

With all of the backlash it’s received, it would be refreshing to see the film do much better than predicted.

Will you be going to the movies over the weekend? Some go in wanting to love it to prove the mouth-breathers wrong.
