Sanders to join Clinton on campaign trail in show of party unity
“Bernie Sanders, who has lost most of his leverage, has totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton”, Trump tweeted.

Clinton hailed Sanders as a warrior for liberal issues, noting that “His reputation for passionate advocacy hasn’t always made him the most popular person in Washington”. Marlon Marshall, the campaign’s director of States and Political Engagement, traveled to the Wyoming to speak with Sanders delegates there. “Thanks to the millions of people across the country who got involved in the political process – many for the first time – we now have the most progressive platform in the history of the Democratic Party”. In the weeks since Hillary Clinton clinched the Democratic nomination, her irascible primary rival won a few policy concessions from her campaign and influenced the shape of the party’s platform.
The event will help to fuse two wings of the Democratic party together that, despite their real differences, seem to be closer together than their counterparts across the aisle.
The New York Times reported last week that Sanders’s anticipated pledge of support is the result of weeks of talks between the two campaigns aimed at unifying the party.
His endorsement could help bring some of those supporters into the fold for Clinton as she faces Republican Donald Trump.
He appeared on stage with her at a event supporting the effort in Vermont.
The Communications Workers of America labor union and the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, two prominent liberal organizations that previously supported Sanders, shifted their allegiances to Clinton on Monday. And he praised her as “one of the brightest people in Congress” when Obama chose her to be secretary of state.
But whatever relationship they had was tested during the primary as both campaigns accused the other of underhanded tactics and unfair attacks. Both Clinton and Sanders oppose the new free-trade deal in its existing form, but Sanders did not want it to even appear for a vote. And it reflected the bombs Sanders continue to lob at Clinton long after it was clear he would lose the nomination. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. heads to the Senate chamber on Capitol Hill in Washington.
It’s much longer route to unity than Clinton took in 2008, when she conceded the race just four days after Obama secured the necessary delegates.
The declaration, reminiscent of remarks made by former president Richard Nixon in his 1968 campaign, came as Trump highlighted recent killings including the horrific shooting deaths of five Dallas officers in a gunman’s sniper-like assault.
“Let’s reward companies that share profits with their employees instead”, Clinton said.
But his most concrete assist may come in New Hampshire, where GOP presumptive nominee Trump dominated.
Hillary Clinton is struggling to make inroads among young Americans who overwhelmingly supported Bernie Sanders during the Democratic presidential primary, a worrisome sign as she tries to reassemble the coalition that twice propelled Barack Obama into the White House.
That outcome rattled Clinton’s campaign, but it ended up presaging little.

“With the Democratic Party on track to ratify the most progressive platform in recent history, and Clinton continuing to campaign on progressive ideas, Sanders supporters can feel good that they helped to transform the future of the Democratic Party and America”, said Kait Sweeney, a spokeswoman for the liberal Progressive Change Campaign Committee and a former Sanders campaign staffer.
