Emmanuel Petit: Manchester United are wasting money on Paul Pogba

A source close to negotiations has told ESPN FC that a move for the player, who has been linked with an imminent switch to his former club Manchester United, is not close to completion, while his agent has said the Premier League side are not the only team interested in his signature.

Paul Pogba’s agent has suggested the France global could opt to remain with Serie A champions Juventus despite continued speculation linking him with a return to Manchester United.

Raiola also said Pogba is “very happy” at Juventus and “not desperate to move”, but he later told Italy’s Sky Sport that anything could still happen before the window closes on August 31.

“Juve don’t want to lose Pogba, they want him to stay for a long time and we’ve discussed a renewal”, Raiola told Sky.

“He is in no rush to leave, and Juventus do not want him to go”. We don’t rule anything out, not even a transfer to another club, because the transfer window is long, it closes in September.

Having to some extent looked like a foregone conclusion, Paul Pogba’s rumoured move to Manchester United has been thrown into uncertainty by comments from his agent.

New United boss Jose Mourinho has already completed the signings of defender Eric Bailly, striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the Portuguese recently stated his desire to wrap up his transfer business swiftly.

“He still has Milan in his heart and there was this possibility of a return, I don’t deny it”, Raiola said. “If they don’t want to fight with Manchester United for £100m, there is a reason behind that”. “I received plenty of calls [for Zlatan], but I’m not going to say who they were all from”.
