Matt Villines, a noted comedy director who worked on popular sketches for “Saturday Night Live” and amusing or Die has died at the age of 39.

Villines and Rodriguez joined SNL in 2012.
“As one half of directing duo Matt and Oz, Villines and his creative partner Osmany Rodriguez collaborated on several popular shorts for SNL, including the acclaimed “Sad Mouse” starring Bruno Mars – see tweet below from former SNL head writer Seth Meyers – “Uber for Jen” and “(Do It On My) Twin Bed”.
Saturday Night Live director Matt Vilines (left) passed away on Saturday, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Saturday Night Live released a statement on Twitter on Monday morning, writing, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Matt Villines. He was a warm, kind guy who got an enormous amount done without ever raising his voice”, Tucker added.
Here are some of the funniest shorts he had a hand in, starting with our personal favourite ‘(Do It On My) Twin Bed’ – a hilarious sketch featuring the incredible female cast of SNL.
The Oklahoma native met his directing partner at film school in Los Angeles, and the two first started gaining attention for their work on the comedy website amusing or Die.
Villines is survived by his wife, Linda; his parents and his sister. He was one of my favorite people.
In addition to their work on SNL, Villines and Rodriguez have also directed an episode of Fox’s The Last Man on Earth and several amusing or Die shorts, including “The Wire: The Musical”, and “The New Guy on New Girl with Zooey Deschanel”.
RIP Matt Villines, an incredible talent whose work at SNL will be sorely missed next season. Wonderful guy, ‘ SNl cast member Bobby Moynihan wrote in another post.
