Police Shootings of Black Men Spark Protests Across US Cities

But outside observers say that claim raises some questions. “That inconsistency has got to be answered”.

Reynolds reminded everyone that the reason she and Castile had been pulled over was for a busted taillight. Diamond captured the aftermath of the shooting in a Facebook Live video. In the video, Reynolds describes being pulled over for a “busted tail light”. There were also reports that bombs had been planted around downtown, but the Dallas Police Department said it had carried out two sweeps for explosives and found none. The NRA is now facing “and internal division” as some say the organization has not done enough to defend the rights of gun owners by failing to speak up on behalf of Castile, notes the Washington Post. Yanez’s attorney Thomas Kelly told the AP Saturday the cop was “reacting to the actions of the driver”. He did not elaborate.

“Either (Castile) was a robbery suspect and (Yanez) didn’t follow the procedures for a felony stop, or (Castile) was not a robbery suspect and (Yanez) shot a man because he stood at his window getting his information”, Goins said.

In midtown Manhattan, protesters first gathered in Union Square Park where they chanted “The people united, never be divided!” and “What do we want?” Yanez eventually opened fire, striking Castile multiple times.

Most of the six officers injured have been released from the hospital, the police chief said, as he praised all the members of his department.

In Louisiana, 37-year-old Alton Sterling was fatally shot Tuesday as he tussled with two white officers outside a convenience store in a predominantly black neighborhood. The men stole cash and cigarettes at gunpoint.

What KARE 11 was able to verify was that the license plate listed in the recording does in fact match that of Castile’s vehicle. In that video, in which Castile is seen bleeding profusely in the driver’s seat, Reynolds tells the officer that her boyfriend had been reaching for his identification when he was shot. Yanez can be heard saying, “I told him not to reach for it”. “You shot four bullets into him, sir”.

In an interview Monday on MSNBC-TV, Reynolds said she chose to pull out her cellphone and hit record because she knew “it was going to be law enforcement’s word over mine”.

The audio also confirmed that police officers on the scene did call for medical attention.

“I guess I wasn’t moving fast enough for him”, said Martin, who said the officer was six feet away when he sprayed him without warning.
