SUSPENDED Auburn (Sydney) councillor Salim Mehajer has struck back at claims his wife Aysha has taken out an AVO against him, saying “only death” would break up their marriage.

Police received the AVO application against Mr Mehajer on Monday.

“As mentioned before, only death will do us apart [sic]”, he said.

Salim Mehajer, pictured in November 2015, says his wife has not taken out an AVO against him.

The application follows months of speculation about their relationship, and repeated assertions on social media by Mr Mehajer, as recently as last week, that nothing was amiss.

Nothing about the basis for the application is known, though more details should come to light when Aysha appears in court on Wednesday to formalise the application against her husband.

In March, Mr Mehajer threw a grand party for Aysha’s 30th birthday rumoured to cost up to $50,000, but questions were raised as to whether she was actually in attendance.

A suspended Sydney councillor, known best for the lavish wedding he held past year which shut down entire streets, has had an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) launched against him by his new wife.

Salim Mehajer had denied any rift with his wife.

Mr Mehajer has continued to publish affectionate comments and photos of the couple on Facebook. In October, Bruce, who worked as a personal trainer at the Anytime Fitness on Railway Parade in Burwood, claimed Mehajer threatened him and said he would kidnap his children. The whole Auburn City Council was suspended in February to make way for a public inquiry examining allegations that some councillors had been misusing their positions.
