Microsoft kicked off their annual Worldwide Partner Conference today in Toronto with a keynote featuring their CEO Satya Nadella talking about partner multiple partner opportunities.
The large amount of data locked up in applications and silos presented a challenge that Nadella says required Microsoft to reinvent business processes using people and platforms as its focus. “I would not be here if it was not for this ecosystem and the ability to get technology to every corner of the world”. Every place where there is operating expense, there is increasing drive for efficiency – which means opportunity for digital technology. “Every small business will be a digital business”, he said. “Each company is attempting to digitally transform to achieve the same four outcomes – to engage customers, empower employees, optimide operations and transform products”, Nadella continues. To little surprise, Azure, Office, bots, Windows, and the like are all part of the path forward but was emphasized several times is that Nadella believes only Microsoft cares about the success of both the individual as well as the organizations they create.
“I think it’s fantastic to see these augmented reality applications getting built, because the best thing that can happen when you’re creating a new category is for applications that are these killer apps, whether it be game or in the industrial scenario, to get invested in”, Nadella said.
“These conversational interfaces will be born on the devices you use today, as an additional entry point, as an additional experience”, Nadella says.

Naturally, Microsoft has a horse in this race: The company has made a big bet on what it calls “conversation as a platform”, providing those software developers with the tools and technology they need to start building chatbots, plus its own Cortana digital assistant.
