A U.S. inmate shot dead two bailiffs on Monday at a courthouse in the state of MI before responding officers returned fire and killed him, authorities said.

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey held a press conference Tuesday morning to update the public on the courthouse shooting. Two bailiffs were fatally shot Monday inside the courthouse before officers killed the gunman, a sheriff said. Zangaro was head of courthouse security and was employed with the court since May 2004, police say.

At this point in the investigation, police believe Gordan was not in handcuffs.

Responding law enforcement officers killed the suspect shortly after the attack began at about 2.25pm local time (7.25pm United Kingdom time).

She said he loved his 6-year-old daughter Cheyenne. She said they had been married 19 years.

One civilian and another officer were injured Monday afternoon, Heit told CNN. He did not publicly identify the shooter or the victims pending notification of victims’ families.
