Canada will lead new North Atlantic Treaty Organisation battle group in Eastern Europe, says Sajjan

U.S. President Barack Obama followed by saying withdrawing from trade deals “is the wrong medicine” for those anxious about lower wages and the growing wage gap.

“And us trying to abandon the field and pull up the drawbridge around us is going to be bad for us”, he said after the talks, hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It followed a summit meeting with the leaders of Canada and Mexico in Ottawa.

At the conclusion of his speech, Obama was met with thunderous applause and chants of “four more years”. Obama will also address the Canadian Parliament.

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan says Canada will lead one of NATO’s four new battle groups being established on the alliance’s eastern flank as part of its stepped up deterrent against Russian Federation. Presented with an opportunity to back away from those remarks, the Mexican president did not take advantage of it.

When a reporter asked the leaders to weigh in on Trump, Obama intervened before Trudeau could answer, suggesting he should be careful what he says in case Trump ends up winning.

Obama recognized there existed “genuine concerns” about the impact on long-term global growth if the Brexit goes ahead.

“When working together, North America can forge important progress on global issues”, it said.

He accused some of exploiting fears by “arguing that we must rebuild walls and disengage from a chaotic world… in order to regain control of our lives”.

The North American leaders’ meeting came as Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for USA president, blamed globalization for the loss of millions of manufacturing jobs and threatens to extricate the US from the North American Free Trade Agreement, in effect since 1994.

Peña Nieto, referring to Republican presumptive presidential nominee candidate Donald Trump, said that he opposed Trump’s call to build a U.S.

The summit, Trudeau’s first and Obama’s last, could be the final harmonious one between the three countries if Trump wins the White House in the November U.S. presidential election.

In a speech in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Trump said he meant to renegotiate the 1994 accord that unites 530 million consumers and represents more than one-quarter of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP).

“Isolationism can not bring prosperity to a society”, Pena Nieto said after bilateral talks with Obama.

Groanworthy as it may be, it’s not far from capturing the air of brotherly love between Trudeau, U.S. President Barack Obama and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, as evidenced by an awkward three-way handshake that made headlines across the continent.

“The bold pledge to power half of North America with clean electricity within 10 years sets a marker that should accelerate investment in renewable energy”, Adams said on Wednesday.

The attack on a Turkish airport in which 41 people died on Tuesday was adding to the urgency of discussions about how the three countries can work together to enhance security.
