Rory McIlroy: still a full-fledged member of Fab Four
In a statement, the Australian explained: “The reason for my decision is my concerns about the possible transmission of the Zika virus and the potential risks it might present to my wife’s future pregnancies and to future members of our family”. So I am honoured and glad that I will be representing my country through the game I play in Rio de Janeiro. “You guys have put that without me saying it. This is health concerns as a whole”. On average, we get tested four or five times a year. Not everybody’s going to understand.

Spieth, who arrived at the Open a year ago seeking the third leg of an unprecedented calendar grand slam after winning the Masters and US Open, said he will not defend his John Deere Classic title in the same week as the Olympics, feeling it would be “inappropriate”. I got into golf to win championships and win major championships. “It’s a decision that will loom with me for a long time”.
He added: “I’ve undergone Olympic testing once this year and that was the Friday of the US Open”.
“I don’t feel like have to carry the torch – see what I’ve done here – for the sport or anyone else”, Spieth said eliciting laughter. “This is bigger than that for me personally”.
Second-ranked Dustin Johnson, the U.S. Open champion, did likewise Friday, while other high-profile golfers to withdraw from the Rio Games include Adam Scott and Marc Leishman of Australia, South Africans Branden Grace, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel and Fiji’s former world No. 1 Vijay Singh. Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler are confirmed for the Games rounding out the US squad. “I can tell you that I’m not specifically pinpointing any one thing in my health concerns either”, he said.
“Look, I get where different people come from, and different people have different opinions”.
That was clearly a shot at golf’s Olympic boosters, who have said it’s the best way to spread the sport to nontraditional areas, with South America being at the forefront this year.
“I could use HGH and get away with it”, said McIlroy, who revealed that, while he has been subjected to three urine tests at tournaments in 2016, there is still no blood testing in the sport. “I bounced back and forth with it, and ultimately a decision had to be made (Monday), and so I made it”. Right now I feel like I’ve got to do a little more work throughout my swing to get it compact and ready for the style of golf.

Unless you are lucky enough to have received a tour, or even luckier to have played in any one of the four major golf championship courses over the years, it is very unlikely that you will have seen the inside of the clubhouse. If I focus on myself and make sure that I’m playing the best that I can, I’m pretty confident that if I go out and play my best golf I’m going to win more times than not.
