India, Tanzania ink 5 agreements

“We agreed to work closely, bilaterally, regionally and globally, to combat the twin threats of terrorism and climate change, ” Modi said.
India and Kenya signed seven agreements to strengthen ties between the two nations.
Modi’s visit is aimed at shoring up economic ties, maritime security and counterbalance China’s growing influence in the resources-rich countries.
To achieve this, the two nations agreed to deepen partnership in agriculture and food security, including through enhanced export of pulses from Tanzania to India.
Modi said the economies of both countries would benefit by “further expansion of investment ties, a more diversified trade basket and nurturing greater intensity of commercial links”.

Modi said Kenya and India will work together in harnessing solar energy, saying it is a good strategy in providing electricity to rural villages. When Modi asked one of the women how long she has been working on solar projects, she said she has been doing so for nine years.
Later, in a speech at the University of Kenya in Nairobi, Modi urged Kenyan youth to condemn terrorism as well as those who practice it. “Indeed, we live in a world where preachers of hate and violence are threatening the fabric of our society”, Modi said.
Kenyatta added that his country is keen to have cooperation in the field of sports, with India having expertise in cricket and Kenya in athletics.

“Both India and Kenya are flourishing democracies”. Prime Minister assured that India is ready to join hands with Kenya for developing an efficient and affordable health care system so that it becomes an important regional hub for health services in East African region.
