Saudi police arrest scores of suspects following bombings

The group also considers Shiites to be heretics.

The Monday evening attack took place just as thousands of worshippers were about to hold sunset prayers in the mosque where the Prophet Muhammad is buried in Medina.

He also called on the Foreign Affairs Ministry to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens in Saudi Arabia, particularly those who are now in the three cities. While Isil has previously launched attacks in the country, most have been on Shia Muslim targets or the Saudi security service.

According to an Interior Ministry spokesman, the following persons have committed Qatif terror attack: Abdulrahman Saleh Mohammed Al-Amer, 23-years-old, formerly detained two years ago for having been involved in a mob calling for the release of terror-related detainees; Ibrahim Saleh Mohammed Al-Amer, 20-years-old; and Abdulkareem Ibrahim Mohammed Al-Hasini, 20-years-old. There were no injuries.

The three locations in Saudi Arabia included the city of Medina, where the bomb struck near the Prophet’s Mosque.

The attack in Medina near Islam’s second holiest site during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan sparked global outrage, especially across the Muslim world.

The sources added that the majority of people arrested over the last days for their involvement with ISIS have admitted to being drug addicts. “It is an attack on the religion itself”, said U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson Rupert Colville. They have a lot of Saudi fighters in their ranks. “They regard the Saudi monarchy as having betrayed Islam”.

The kingdom’s special emergency force, answering to the Interior Ministry, comprises quick-response security officers used for a variety of situations, including rescues, riot control and other police actions.

Iran condemned Monday’s blasts, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi called for regional and worldwide unity in confronting terrorism, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The explosion happened roughly 33 feet (10 meters) from the consulate’s wall.

In the morning, in the coastal city of Jiddah, two security officers were wounded in the blast near the consulate.

“The vibrations were very strong”, he said.
