Stanton “Had A Blast” While Putting On Power Display During HR Derby

Stanton hit 20 homers in the final round to best defending champion Todd Frazier of the Chicago White Sox.
After Giancarlo went beast mode hitting 24 home runs in the first round of Monday’s Home Run Derby, Robinson Cano had the monumental task of trying to top “The Avatar” (courtesy of “Big Papi” David Ortiz). Hitting just. 233 with 20 home runs and 107 strikeouts through the first 76 games of the season, Stanton opted to accept an invitation to the Home Run Derby anyway, and he made the most of his coast-to-coast trip.
The team’s marketing department sent out an email earlier in the day, offering fans 1% off future tickets for each home run hit by Stanton in the contest.
Stanton is the second straight National League player to win the Home Run Derby.
Stanton defeated Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo, 17-13, in one semifinal matchup with 14 of his shots carrying more than 440 feet.
Stanton’s peers – major leagauers, that is, not home run crushers, because he proved he has no peers at that – were every bit as impressed as everyone else watching the show. Nicknamed for the Herculean home run hitter (“The House that Ruth Built”), the right field seats were in danger because of the long balls exploding off the bat of Josh Hamilton.
After hitting. 193 through the first two and a half months of the season, Stanton has begun to find his stroke. And it ranks 15th in promoting home runs, playing nearly perfectly neutral.
That equates to 5.14 miles of long balls hit by Stanton. Frazier won the event past year as a member of the Reds. Cano’s longest drive was recorded at 452 feet. You say, ‘oh, man, I didn’t know that was coming out.’ It’s like a guy from that movie 300, just walking in, it’s like, “That’s the guy we have to take down or we’re in trouble.’ I couldn’t take him down and that’s what happens a lot of the time”.

Last year, in the first season of the timed format, no hitter topped 15 homers in the first round. A good one: “I mean anything travels that far oughta have a damn stewardess on it, don’t you think?” hat tip to Crash Davis. The Marlins recently hired Home Run King Barry Bonds as their hitting coach and it was a genius move. “I tell everybody that the last round of BP in a game what is everybody trying to do, basically hit one out of the park”.
