McDonald’s trialling table service in UK restaurants

Soon queuing could be a thing of the past, as McDonald’s are set to trial table service for the first time in the UK.

The new service will be trialled in Mottram McDonald’s, east of Manchester city centre, and rolled out in nine more stores before the end of August.

Instead of the usual till situation, customers will order from kiosks or from staff with tablet computers (ooh, fancy!), and a waiter will then deliver it to your table.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “We have listened to customer feedback and to meet their evolving expectations we are significantly investing in our restaurants to create an exciting new environment and improve the customer experience”.

“We’re still working it out and looking at the best possible locations for it”, they said.

In Australia, McDonald’s have been trialing a new gourmet menu – is that next?

There will still be an option to order at the till.

Table service is part of an initiative by McDonald’s to introduce a more digitalised service to customers.

The service is already available in Australia, Switzerland, France and Germany and if successful in the UK the company plans to roll it out nationwide. Back in May he said he wanted to experiment with new sandwiches and changes to how customers order. “It’s up to each country to decide on a case-by-case basis what’s best for their customers”.
