Amazon launched Prime Day last summer, promising Prime loyalty program subscribers a multitude of exclusive deals across the spectrum of merchandise categories.

The online retailer says global orders were 60% higher than past year while USA orders rose 50%. In fact, Amazon Vice President of Prime Greg Greeley said that the selling event was “the best deal in the history of shopping”.

Amazon devices such as the Echo voice-enabled speaker, Fire TV and Fire tablet were sold at huge discount during the sale.

Amazon did not provide any details on total sales. Last year, when you clicked on a Prime Day promotion, you saw 5-10 results of Prime deals and then normal non-deal Amazon listings. There have not been anymore server issues later during Prime Day 2016. The Fire Stick was the best-selling Prime Day item.

It also serves to promote Amazon Prime, since shoppers had to be members to take advantage of the deals.

However, a study on online consumer sentiment from Adobe Digital Insights, which tracked over 4 million social engagements, showed customers were much happier with this year’s Prime Day.

Customers also bought hundreds of thousands of Kindle e-readers, and more people purchased items through the Amazon app in 2016 than in 2015.

Amazon had 63 million Prime subscribers as of June 30, an increase of 43 percent from a year earlier, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners in Chicago.

· The Prime Photos sweepstakes had two million submissions worldwide during the lead-up to Prime Day, the victor will be randomly selected on or about July 14. It was a big day for small businesses as well, the company said.

· Members purchased over 200,000 headphones.
