13 new Zika cases reported in Florida

The researcher said that the environmental conditions that persist at the U.S. -Mexico border are suitable for the growth of Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is also responsible for the transmission of Zika virus. The other two cases are in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Four more SC residents have been diagnosed with the Zika virus bringing the state total to 11 confirmed cases.

Although Missouri mosquitoes aren’t spreading Zika now, if that changes, this study will help Missouri focus a battle against any species that become unsafe. “It may not be possible to determine how the Zika infection contributed to the death”. “People travelling to areas where the Zika virus is prevalent should take precautions to prevent mosquito bites”. Those mosquitoes could then incubate the virus and begin spreading it to others. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes).

In a new risk-assessment report, the CDC found that since the games are occurring during winter in Brazil, the cooler, drier weather will reduce mosquito populations, thus lowering the chance of Zika transmission to visiting athletes and spectators. “We continue to urge pregnant women, women who are trying to conceive and their male partners to avoid travelling to Zika-affected areas”.

At least 24 pregnant women have contracted the virus in New York City, along with eight women in Suffolk, officials said.

The man, who was bitten by an infected mosquito, was tested within the last two weeks of his recent travel to a Zika-affected region.

The Zika virus has captured headlines worldwide for causing serious birth defects, such as babies born with smaller-than-normal heads. According to Dr. Safranek, this is not unexpected and doesn’t change that Nebraska is considered a low-risk state for the possibility of Zika virus being transmitted here. In those cases, the mothers are infected during pregnancy, which is why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is suggesting that pregnant women not travel to countries where Zika is prominent.

The Ministry also mentions that condom use reduces the risk of transmitting the virus through sexual contact.
