The Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier spoke today after day two of fall practices. “I didn’t know that was permissible”. I love Duke University. It’s the same date Shaw surprised us all by starting against the Pirates.

If anyone knows about quarterbacks, or at least will tell the world that they know about quarterbacks, it’s the Gamecocks’ head coach, and he likes what he sees in Nunez.
“Eventually, all of us coaches say who goes out there first because somebody has to, but the players generally decide if they are the starter or not”, Spurrier said. Overall, it was fun to see the new guys. Offensive line coach Shawn Elliott mentioned that senior Mike Matulis could be a vital part of the front thanks to his position flexibility.
Steve Spurrier keeps talking about a quarterback competition and some of us are having a hard time believing it. I owe a lot to Duke, and I heard there were some conversations we might play them. A lot of jobs are up for grabs. Hopefully we’ll be doing that all week.
“Several years ago, we started Connor Shaw up in Charlotte and of course the local media said there was no way he’d ever be as good as Stephen Garcia, remember that guy that used to be here?” They are athletic, can move around and had a good summer with (strength coach) Joe (Connolly).
Four players wore yellow “no contact” shirts at the first practice, including defensive end Gerald Dixon (lower leg), defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth (pec), cornerback Rico McWilliams (hamstring) and tight end Connor Redmond (back). – Per USC, offensive lineman Brock Stadnik will not partake in preseason camp while rehabbing from shoulder surgery.
