Aston Martin And Red Bull Unveil AM-RB 001 Hypercar
Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing say that the AM-RB 001 will be built around a super-light carbon-fibre structure, but the most intriguing aspect about the hypercar is its Newey-designed aerodynamics. May we remind you that this is not a track-only special à la Vulcan, but a homologated road-going reality “engineered to be entirely useable and enjoyable as a road vehicle, but with the capability to perform like no road auto before it on a race track”. The AM-RB 001 consists essentially of a pod for the driver, passenger and engine that is suspended on four-wheels.

Specific technical details remain scarce, but AM-RB have confirmed that the vehicle will be powered by a “high-revving” naturally-aspirated V12 engine mounted amidships. Underpinning the AM-RB 001 is a carbonfibre structure that rides on a Newey-designed suspension system, which is reputed to deliver comfort befitting of a road auto while being capable of enduring heavy aerodynamic loads. Insights have been taken from the F1 cars in order to ensure that the AM-RB 001 is able to handle the power it develops.
Aston Martin is building a “hypercar” in an attempt to bring F1 technology to everyday road cars. As of now, 99-150 cars will be made and 25 track versions are going to be made.
Three men were charged with the creation of AM-RB 001, Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer and David King, VP and Chief Special Operations Office.
Aston Martin has unveiled one of the most ambitious vehicles in history – a road auto set to be as quick as an F1 racer.
So say hello to the AM-RB 001, and yes, as you guessed, that stands for Aston Martin-Red Bull.
“I’ve long harboured the desire to design a road auto”, Newey said in a statement.
Aston Martin makes some of the most exciting cars out there.
Industry sources are speculating on an output of around 900bhp – the auto also has a kinetic energy recovery system derived direct from F1 practice, though what goal it serves in this environment has not been revealed yet.
Asked if Newey’s focus would shift back towards F1 once the Aston Martin project reaches fruition towards the end of next year, Horner said: “Adrian over the last couple of years has been spending probably about 50% of his time focused on Formula One”. ‘I knew Red Bull Racing had the ability to handle the pure performance aspects, but Aston Martin’s experience of making lovely, fast and comfortable GT cars is of great benefit to the project.

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner added: “Red Bull Racing has always steered an innovative course in our ongoing development of a competitive Formula One vehicle”.
