The long-haul budget airline was again named the “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline Premium Cabin” and “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline Premium Seat” at the 2016 Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Every year, Skytrax conducts surveys to create a ranking of the planet’s top 100 airlines, along with rankings for various other, more specific categories, known collectively as the Passenger’s Choice Awards. In fact, there were many familiar names in the top 10, with Emirates coming out on top for the fourth time in history.

“We are honored to be recognized by the prestigious Skytrax awards”, Emirates president Tim Clark said in a news release.

“Qatar Airways remains a favourite among air travellers year-on-year and achieved strong results across numerous 2016 awards categories, ranking No 2 in the world. We hope that with the new brand of LATAM Airlines the travel experience will continue to meet and exceed their customer’s expectations”.

The carrier also received the distinction of having the “World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge” and the “World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining”.

The airlines, announced on March 1 a record operating net profit of 2.99 billion Turkish liras ($1.01 billion) for last year, a 65 percent increase from a year earlier. Skytrax is the most respected global airline passenger survey organisation in the industry, its World Airline Awards described as “the Oscars of the aviation industry”.

The Arabian Gulf airlines have been engaged in a protracted war of words against and their American rivals, with allegations of unfair government subsidies against the Gulf carriers. Certified Airline Ratings classify airlines by the quality of front-line product and staff service they provide to customers, and are recognised as a global benchmark of airline standards.
