The sheriff said not every inmate is escorted into court in handcuffs.
“She was still able to get back to the probation office (in the courthouse) and tell everyone there to get down and take cover”, said Michigan Department of Corrections’ Spokesman Chris Gautz said, according to The South Bend Tribune. The teen also was physically assaulted.
When police entered the shed, they found a 17-year-old girl who had been held against her will for about two weeks, Sepic said. The relationship allegedly started when the girl was 16, he said.
A long criminal history has followed the jail inmate who fatally shot two bailiffs and wounded a sheriff’s deputy and civilian Monday in the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph.
“Our hearts are torn apart”, he said, “They were our friends”.
Bailey said Gordon was appearing in court to face multiple felony charges, though he wouldn’t specify what they were. The two divorced in February, but Jessica Gordon told the Detroit Free Press that the divorce decree was “only a piece of paper” and that she still loved and “will always love him”.

More details are being released about the deadly courthouse shooting in southwest MI. She added that he was “not a monster”, but “an awesome man that got mixed up with the wrong people”.
“We’re going to look at everything about why this happened and make sure that if there are things we can change so this never happens again, we will”, Bailey said. “He thought he would die in prison”.
Gordon was taken down by two officers.
They were seeking him on an earlier misdemeanor domestic violence warrant.
Judge Charles LaSata said he ended up handling the case without ever calling Gordon to podium.
Authorities reported that Gordon showed “no warning signs” prior to the incident as he was being transferred through the corridors leading to the courtroom.
LaSata said he heard some loud voices and shouting, then thuds and thumping.
The judge followed protocol, hitting the panic button.
Kienzle, tall and beefy, could be an imposing presence, but Fetke said he was one of the great characters in police work.
Then came sounds of someone kicking in the door to LaSata’s chambers. Two court officers were shot and killed Monday by an inmate at the courthouse. The inmate, Larry Darnell Gordon, was killed by other officers.

Berrien County Commissioner Mac Elliott, an attorney, knew the bailiffs professionally for more than 20 years and spoke of the family-like environment among courthouse staff and local attorneys. “They were loving husbands and fathers and we are mourning their deaths this morning”.
