Examining Newt Gingrich As Potential Trump Running Mate

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich flew to IN to meet with Donald Trump Wednesday just a day after suspending his on-air relationship with Fox News – by hopping a ride on a jet owned by Fox host Sean Hannity.

Both Hannity and a Fox News spokesperson did not comment about the flight. A Fox statement said the network and Gingrich made the move to avoid any conflict of interest. He joined the network in 1999, and his role was suspended in 2011 when he ran for president in 2012.

The Trump-Gingrich meeting came at the request of the former speaker.

For him to know that, he’s either (a) the VP pick himself, or (b) knows the process SO well that he knows who the pick is. The Republican National Convention, where Trump will formally be enshrined as the party’s nominee, begins Monday in Cleveland.

Trump revealed some of his thinking to Fox News host Bret Baer in a clip that aired Wednesday.

Then again, maybe that’s why these two are linking up! “Who has balanced the budget and given us a surplus?”

Gingrich has worked as a consultant on Trump’s campaign, and said earlier this month that he was being vetted to be a prospective vice presidential pick.

Political sources and pundits have named Gingrich and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as the most likely running mates for Trump; he’s expected to announce his choice by Friday.

Getting dropped by FOX is no small thing, but are we really looking at the GOP ticket??
