Flynn voices abortion views at odds with Republican platform
Donald Trump has said he will announce his choice for a running mate this week, in advance of the start of the Republican National Convention on Monday.

“All I would say is that I have been honoured to serve my country for the past three decades and look forward to serving in other ways now that I am retired from the U”.
Flynn told Al Jazeera English in May about Trump that he “doesn’t agree with everything he’s said”, refusing to fully endorse the candidate’s calls to bring back waterboarding and for “taking out” terrorists’ families. “I vote for leaders”.
Helen Flynn instilled in her son an interest in civic duty but also a more conservative brand of Democratic politics that the now-retired general says no longer exists.
The Washington Post reported on Saturday that Trump is becoming increasingly infatuated with Flynn, who ran the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2012-2014 under President Barack Obama, because he believes national unrest and the threat of terrorism may demand a “tough and steady” presence on the ticket.
On ABC’s “This Week” program Sunday, he tried to brush off questions about social issues, saying, “I’m about national security”.
Trump himself had a change of heart on the issue, moving from a pro-abortion rights position to an anti-abortion rights stance in recent years.
“What people do in their private lives, these are not big issues that our country’s dealing with”, said Flynn, while not commenting directly on marriage.
Flynn, a Rhode Island native and a Democrat, is a retired United States Army lieutenant general who served as the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, commander of the Joint Functional Component Command for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, and chair of the Military Intelligence Board.
In a statement to New York Post, Trump said, “I have a lot of respect for Gen. Flynn, and his advice is important”.
Flynn did not leave the Obama administration on amicable terms.
While warming toward Flynn, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and former House speaker Newt Gingrich, among several others, are being vetted, and many of his associates are urging him to go with a seasoned governor or senator who could help to unite the party. The second general is Jack Keane.

In his first book, The Field of Fight: How We Can Win the Global War Against Radical Islam and Its Allies, to be released Tuesday, Flynn writes, “We’re in a world war”. Scott Brown and Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.
