Speaking at his first press conference, Conte said: “John Terry signed a contract as a player, not as a different role”.

The details of Terry’s contract remained a mystery amid suggestions he would take on a “different role”, but Conte confirmed that Terry would remain a player and, in a bid to keep stability, insisted the former England global would remain captain of the club.

Conte, who has been officially unveiled as the new permanent boss of the Blues, was quizzed over the role of Chelsea’s longest-serving player.
