Chris Evans Quits ‘Top Gear’ After One Season Of Revamped BBC Show

The BBC hired Evans and LeBlanc to host Top Gear after Jeremy Clarkson was sacked in 2015 when he punched his producer. Earlier this month, several British tabloids claimed that the Friends alum was planning to leave the show if Evans did not do so first. In fact, they were very bad.

In comparison, Top Gear at its peak under the supervision of Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond pulled in 350 million viewers per week in 170 countries.

He tweeted: “Stepping down from Top Gear”.

According to BBC News, Chris announced he is stepping down as the presenter after just a series, because sometimes, giving the best shot is just not enough.

‘The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best’.

In an official statement released via the BBC, Chris once again praised the Top Gear team and said he will always remain a fan of the show.

This comes after ratings for the motoring show hit an all-time low on Sunday evening, averaging 1,9 million viewers.

It has a huge social media presence with 23 million fans on Facebook.

The TV and radio presenter said he was stepping down after just one series, amidst flagging ratings.

It leaves LeBlanc as the main host, along with racing driver Sabine Schmitz, Formula One presenter Eddie Jordan, YouTube star Chris Harris, vehicle enthusiast Rory Reid and The Stig.

“The new series has so far notched up over 30million views in the United Kingdom alone and has already been sold to 130 territories worldwide”.

Evans, 50, was also recently accused publicly by a former colleague of inappropriate behaviour on the set of a 1990s production, which he strenuously denied.

Over the last six weeks, Top Gear has struggled to make an impact in the overnights – the figures for the previous day’s viewing.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed they are investigating an historic allegation of sexual assault.
