Long-Term Deal Not Expected Between Eric Berry, Chiefs
So the Chiefs aren’t willing to do that, and Berry isn’t willing to do a deal based on different metrics.

There remains time for the two sides to bridge the gap, however, as they have until 3 p.m. Friday to get an extension done.
Chiefs and franchise-tagged safety Eric Berry are not expected to reach a long-term deal by Friday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.
No deal would leave Berry with the one-year, $10.806 million tender. Chiefs fans know that because we’ve been paying attention over the years, including last season with Justin Houston.
A holdout in this situation wouldn’t make much sense. That means a one-year deal will have to be executed. The team already has a significant amount of money committed to 2017 – upwards of $166 million, which already surpasses the 2016 cap number of $155 million. Berry was cleared to play for the 2015 season and helped lead the Chiefs to the playoffs. He finished last season with 61 tackles, 10 pass deflections and two interceptions en route to being named to the Pro Bowl and NFL Comeback Player of the Year after he successfully returned from his battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Former Vol Eric Berry won the award for Best Comeback Athlete at the ESPYS Wednesday.

“I want to thank my parents who are here sitting with me and are some true ride or dies who showed me the true meaning of unconditional love and showed me how important that is in this world”, Berry said.
