Earlier in the day, Waters and two of his officers patrolled the streets of Dallas so that city’s officers could attend funerals for their fallen colleagues, Senior Cpl Lorne Ahrens and Sgt Michael Smith.

A reporter for the station said that one of the victims was an off-duty deputy fire chief in the nearby town of McKinney. “Whenever we see one of them hurt, injured living their everyday normal lives, our hearts really go out to them”.
He says the suspect was being treated for what are believed to be self-inflicted injuries to his hand. Waters said hundreds of customers were evacuated from the store in northern Texas.
Martinez was arrested in a field approximately 150 yards away from the store’s entrance. The store was put on lockdown and is expected to reopen this morning.
