Trump adviser: VP announcement Friday in New York

On Tuesday night, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump campaigned with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who he is vetting as his running mate.

Campaigning with Pence in IN last night, Trump joked, “I don’t know if he’s going to be your governor” or join the Trump ticket.

Trump, joined by daughter Ivanka and sons Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, had breakfast with Pence and his wife, Karen, on Wednesday at the governor’s residence in Indianapolis.

The meeting was created to let Trump’s family get to know the Christie better before the presumptive nominee formalizes his decision.

Trump’s children met with Christie on Tuesday, a source close to the governor confirmed, describing the meeting as good and saying both parties had an existing relationship and were already friendly.

It is being reported that the candidate Trump really wants to choose to be his running mate is New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. That’s according to a person familiar with Trump’s thinking, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss the vetting process.

Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, the first sitting senator to endorse Trump, also arrived in Indianapolis to counsel Trump on his choice.

All three have had “auditions” as Trump’s partner by opening for the billionaire candidate at speeches over the last week. After traveling together on Tuesday, Pence and Trump met up again on Wednesday at the governor’s mansion. The AP reported last month that almost every Trump employee – both in the campaign and his businesses – must sign legally binding nondisclosure agreements prohibiting them from releasing any confidential or disparaging information about the real estate mogul, his family or his companies. “Nothing was offered, nothing was accepted”, Pence told reporters after he walked around the pavilion and Food Alley of the Three Rivers Festival at Headwaters Park, stopping to shake hands and pose for photos with fairgoers.

Gingrich has been a steadfast Trump defender for months and has become a trusted adviser to the businessman.

Trump has spent weeks consulting with friends and family as he weighs the most important decision of his campaign to date.

Trump’s Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, too, is likely to announce her running mate soon.

Trump told The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday he is looking for a “fighter skilled in hand-to-hand combat” as his second-in-command, but hadn’t seen enough of Pence to measure his fight.

Trump appeared reluctant to commit on Wednesday.

“I don’t know if he’s going to be your governor or your vice president, who the hell knows!” The announcement of the newly minted ticket could mark an opportunity for Trump to build up a wave of momentum heading into the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next week.

The mystery surrounding Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick has reached new heights as the crowd of candidates has apparently thinned.

A source close to the campaign said Trump appeared to be leaning toward Pence but that he could always change his mind. “He’s straight out of central casting”. “There are a number of other noteworthy Americans that they are considering, and I’m just honored to be on that list”.

“I think he’s giving it very careful consideration, and we’re humbled to be a part of that”, he said.
