Donald Trump Reportedly Taps Mike Pence As His Vice Presidential Running Mate

The campaign has said that it will unveil a running mate for Trump in NY on Friday (July 15). The campaign isn’t confirming anything, though, until a news conference Friday morning in NY. The disagreements between Trump and Pence, and Pence’s commitment to his principles, may make it hard for Pence to be a full-throated representative for Trump on the campaign trail. The Pence pick could be an indication Trump is coming around toward more standard political behavior, according to the Times.

Trump does not forget his business relationships, giving speaking slots to real estate investor Tom Barrack and even the general manager for Virginia’s Trump Winery, Kerry Woolard. Ted Cruz of Texas, one of Trump’s opponents during a contentious and divisive GOP primary contest.

Trump appeared to have winnowed the field from about 10 people last week in what some have compared to a reality-TV show.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump shakes hands with Indiana Governor Mike Pence, left, before addressing the crowd during a campaign stop at the Grand Park Events Center in Westfield, Indiana, on July 12.

Also absent from the list are several notable senators and governors, such as Florida Senator Marco Rubio (also an ex-Trump rival), Arizona Senator John McCain, Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott. Ernst suggested Pence should get the nod while saying she was focused on serving Iowa in the Senate.

Ryan tells reporters Thursday: “I hope that he picks a good movement conservative”.
