What Trump and Clinton say the Dallas shootings mean for policing

The Clinton campaign canceled a joint rally with Vice President Joe Biden in Scranton, Pennsylvania, scheduled for earlier Friday, citing the “tragic events” in Dallas.

The meetings come as some Republicans worry that having Trump at the top of the ticket could hurt their efforts to keep the Senate majority.

Ms Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, gave interviews to CNN and two other television channels – MSNBC and PBS – wherein she faced questions on the email controversy and shared her views following the “ambush style” shooting in Dallas that killed five police officers.

Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump each reacted Friday to the deadly police shootings in Dallas.

Do I think compared to Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump would be a radically better president? Yes.

“Racial divisions have gotten worse, not better”, Trump said.

This morning I offer my thoughts and prayers for all of the victims’ families, and we pray for our fearless police officers and first responders who risk their lives to protect us every single day.

Following the death of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the hands of white police officers, Clinton released a written statement, saying “something is profoundly wrong when so many Americans have reason to believe that our country doesn’t consider them as precious as others because of the color of their skin”.

Trump’s powerhouse lunch was to include Rubio as well as Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a potential Trump running mate.

Instead of treating drug abuse as a law enforcement issue, Johnson said society should treat it as a public health issue, which would help ease tensions on both sides.

“I think he’s a necessary candidate”, Gingrich said.

In addition to the five killed, several officers were wounded.

Clinton and Trump react to Dallas shooting Clinton posted this on Twitter, and did not tweet anything else for hours afterward.

On CNN, Ms Clinton praised the slain Dallas officers and called the attack “an absolutely horrific event”. “Somehow we’ve veered off of it in recent years”, she said.

Some were disappointed by the news, but nearly everyone said it was appropriate given Thursday night’s shooting in which five police officers were killed and several others injured when a gunman opened fire during a protest in Dallas.

Trump’s response to the shooting in Dallas was remarkably different from his response to mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando last month.

“You have to honor the unfortunate things that have been happening in our world, in our country”, said Dickson City resident Mary Ann Hrinko, a campaign volunteer.

“It’s an objective reality that if you are a white parent with teenagers you have dramatically less fear of the police walking up to them than if you’re a black parent with black teenagers”, Gingrich said.
