Pence would give Trump a younger, conservative favorite to help heal the rift within the Republican Party and ease the minds of many still skeptical of the presumptive presidential nominee. He said in a Fox News interview: “We will announce tomorrow when it will be”.

“I sent him congrats”, the source said of the Pence staffer, “and his exact words [in response] were, ‘Thanks”.

Krisher said she didn’t have a favored candidate if the nomination opens up and expected others might jump in once a Pence decision is known.

According to multiple reports, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is preferred by Donald Jr., while Governor Chris Christie is opposed by Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump’s husband.

“I know that Governor Pence did do some important work with the administration to expand Medicaid in his state”, Earnest told reporters, The Independent Journal reports.

This is not to say that smoking is good for you…news flash: “smoking is not good for you…The relevant question is, what is more harmful to the nation, second hand smoke or back handed big government disguised in do-gooder healthcare rhetoric”. Pence was seen by TV networks arriving at a New York-area airport. The Indianapolis Star, New York Times, CNN and others have reported Pence as the pick. Traditionally, the vice presidential choice is used to build enthusiasm among party loyalists.

“The selection of anti-gay crusader Gov. Mike Pence, along with the homophobic Republican party platform and a deafening silence on the LGBT Equality Act completes a trifecta of hate from Donald Trump on LGBT rights”, Malcolm Lazin, executive director of the gay rights group Equality Forum, said in a statement.

“We’ve cut costs, lowered taxes & reduced regulations to allow job creators to invest in what matters most – in their businesses & employees”, tweeted the former House member, who was elected governor four years ago. “He’ll be able to defend him as well as be a cheerleader but do it in a calm, cool, collected manner that will preserve his credibility”.

He also met with a fourth potential No. 2, U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, 69, of Alabama, who has been one of Trump’s closest advisers. He said he had told Trump that he needed to decide whether he wanted “two pirates” on the same ticket. Both men have been political mavericks. “I’m not going to say it won’t bother me if I’m not selected”. Pence, a staunch conservative, served six terms in Congress and supported Sen.

But here are a few initial points about Pence’s relationship with the Religious Right, whose leaders seem to be largely coming around to Trump’s candidacy despite initial skepticism. In 2011, Pence spearheaded the effort to defund Planned Parenthood over its abortion services, even telling MSNBC that “of course” he was willing to risk a government shutdown over the fight.

Pence also criticized Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country.
