Beyonce, Adele’s music specials earn Emmy nominations

Adele’s concert special Live In New York City was nominated for five Emmys: Outstanding Variety Special, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Hairstyling, Outstanding Lighting Design/Direction and Outstanding Technical Direction.

Beyoncé’s concept musical drama film “Lemonade” picked up four nominations for the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards announced Thursday.

The visual album is up for Outstanding Production Design For A Variety, Nonfiction, Event Or Award Special, Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming, and Outstanding Variety Special.

Beyonce and Adele’s programs are nominated for outstanding variety special, where both singers earned nominations as executive producers.

Beyoncé has previously received Emmy nominations for her Superbowl halftime show in 2013 and her On The Run Tour HBO special in 2015.

Adele’s special aired on NBC previous year and featured live performances of songs from her earth-shattering comeback album, “25”. The duo are up against Grease: Live, the Grammy Awards broadcast, the Kennedy Center Honors broadcast and live specials from Adele and Amy Schumer.
