“Game of Thrones” earns a leading 23 Emmy Award nominations

Here is a list of networks that got at least 15 Emmy nominations this year, and how they fared in 2015. The shows claimed the top drama and comedy series prizes at last years Emmy ceremony.

HBO became this year’s top nominated network because of shows such as “Game of Thrones”, “Silicon Valley”, and “Veep”.

Other nominees included Indian-American Aziz Ansari for his debut Netflix comedy Master of None, Egyptian-American Rami Malek for Mr Robot and black actresses Taraji P Henson for Fox’s hip-hop series Empire and Viola Davis for ABC’s thriller How to Get Away with Murder.

The nominees for best supporting actor in a comedy are Louie Anderson of “Baskets”, Keegan-Michael Key of “Key and Peele”, Andre Braugher of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, Ty Burrell of “Modern Family”, Tituss Burgess of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, Matt Walsh of “Veep”, and Tony Hale of “Veep”, while Niecy Nash of “Getting On”, Allison Janney of “Mom”, Kate McKinnon of “Saturday Night Live”, Judith Light of “Transparent”, Gaby Hoffmann of “Transparent”, and Anna Chlumsky of “Veep” are nominated for best supporting actress in a comedy.

Cuba Gooding Jr, who played OJ Simpson, and Courtney B Vance, who portrayed Simpson’s lawyer Johnnie Cochran, are both up for best lead actor in a limited series.

We’ll get to the repeat nominees in a sec, but let’s take a moment to pump our fists for all of the new Netflix shows that got honored with nominations, as that is the real proof that the service’s programming will continue to build its stronghold on the awards sector. Among the possible contenders include the TV sitcom “black-ish”, the transgender comedy “Transparent” and the Asian-American family comedy “Fresh Off the Boat”.

The show, which raked in a record-breaking 12 awards past year, faces competition from “House of Cards”, “Better Call Saul”, “Mr. Robot”, “Downton Abbey”, “The Americans” and “Homeland”.

In a phone interview, Paulson said that despite joy over her recognition she was happiest to learn that Brown was nominated for his portrayal of Darden.

Also in the best comedy category is “Master of None”, starring Aziz Ansari as a struggling NY actor coping with personal and professional woes.

The ensemble cast of “Game of Thrones” found leading bids elusive. “I owe my performance whatever it is to him”. Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey and Maisie Williams earned supporting actress bids in a year that the show’s female characters gained the upper hand.

A top acting nod for “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays a US vice president now elevated to the Oval Office, gives her the chance to score her fifth consecutive win and set a record.
