Broncos make record offer to Von Miller as deadline nears

An ESPN source was “optimistic” the deal would get done. That would officially put the ball in Miller’s court to agree to a deal that would make him the highest paid non-quarterback in National Football League history.

Even though the talks have been dysfunctional at times and still haven’t consisted of a meaningful, sustained, back-and-forth negotiations, there’s an emerging sense that the Broncos and linebacker Von Miller will have a six-year, $114.5 million contract in place by this time Friday night. That deal had $59 million guaranteed in the first nine months, and at least $70 million in overall guarantees, an improvement from the previously reported million. He has started every game he’s played, and last season, he totaled 35 tackles, 11 sacks and four forced fumbles.

He helped the Broncos defense stop the explosive Pittsburgh Steelers offense and he dominated the Patriots offensive line and made life a living hell for Tom Brady. He was the tone setter early on and applied the dagger in the big game by forcing two fumbles from the MVP Cam Newton.

The $14 million Harris references is roughly what Miller would make by signing the franchise tag tender and playing under a one-year deal. “I think he truly, this whole time just talking to him, he hates the franchise tag”. This deal is getting done.

If the Denver Broncos are serious about trying to get Von Miller under contract longterm ahead of Friday’s deadline, it sounds like they’re on the right track.
