In a twitter message on Wednesday evening, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt General Asim Saleem Bajwa told this, saying that the Commander RSM called the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and confirmed death of terrorist Umar Narai.
Relations were strained by a US drone strike in May that killed Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour as he was driving through Pakistan’s Baluchistan province. “What we have is pretty credible”, the unnamed official said.
On 25th May, the U.S. state Department has designated Umar Mansour as a global terrorist and enters the name of Umar Mansour in the hit-list.
“We will issue a statement once we are in position to confirm or reject the report of his death”, the commander said.
The US military have killed Umar Khalifa, a known leader in Tariq Gidar Group, along with another four enemy combatants amid airstrikes in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said on Wednesday.
Both said he was among those responsible for a Taliban attack at a school in the northwestern city of Peshawar in December 2014 that killed more than 150 people, majority children.
The massacre on December 16, 2014, left 144 students and staff members dead after seven gunmen of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) stormed the Army Public School in the northwestern city of Peshawar. He was also behind the Jan 2016 attack on the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda in which 18 students and faculty members lost their lives.
“The United States maintains a robust counter-terrorism partnership with Afghanistan and Pakistan and we recognize the sacrifices made on behalf of our respective militaries to pursue terrorists for the sake of regional peace and security”, Mr. Cook said. He was held responsible for the Sept 2015 attack on a Pakistan Air Force base in Peshawar’s Badaber area, which left 29 people dead.
