Pokemon Go’s success seen spurring AR tech in mobile games

Shares in the Japanese company Nintendo have seen a stellar rise since the release of their augmented reality game Pokemon Go, gaining more than 50% since the release last week.

Ever since the launch of Pokemon GO, we’ve heard stories from folks who have discovered that their house is a Gym or Pokestop, with some being more tolerant than others of the inevitable groups of Pokemon trainers showing up on their property.

Over at Reddit, some users have already found that McDonald’s is mentioned in the game’s source code.

Pokemon Go’s global rollout continues as the popular mobile app is now available in the UK.

After just a week of availability, the game already has more daily active users than decade-old social network Twitter, and nearly as many as Snapchat and Google Maps.
