Skull Island: Reign of Kong, a King Kong-themed attraction, opened today at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, FL.

The opening of the King Kong ride wasn’t the only reason to celebrate for Universal Orlando, as the company also opened its fifth on-site hotel, the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, on Thursday.
Guests are taken deep into a mysterious world with a mission: to discover creatures of unknown origin, according to Universal’s official blog. When Universal Studios opened in 1990, Kongfrontation was one of the park’s main attractions. Guests are transported by a specially designed vehicle that transports them into a world full of temple ruins and hostile natives. It is Kong – in the flesh. Apparently he’ll lean in so close that you’ll be able to “feel his breath and sense his emotion”. But is he friend or foe?
Universal promises guests will run into King Kong, who, at nearly three stories tall, will tower over everyone. It’s the multi-sensory, multi-dimensional ride for your life.
The Orlando theme park has been tight-lipped about when the enormous ride would open, even though it has let riders on intermittently for “technical rehearsals” for weeks.
