Ferdinand advises Stones to choose United over Chelsea

Former Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says John Stones would be more suited to a move to Old Trafford than to Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has hinted that Chelsea may not increase their offer for Everton defender John Stones.

Contrary to Ferdinand’s claim that Stones would spend his time sitting on the substitutes’ bench at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have a clear career plan for the England worldwide.

“He is a young man with a terrific talent, who is already with us”, Martinez said of Andrade. We know exactly where we are, what we need.

As a very talented English player, Stones warrants a big transfer fee, especially when the likes of United and Chelsea are involved.

Defender John Stones, who has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, and Kevin Mirallas are expected to shake off their injuries while new signing Gerard Deulofeu also has not been ruled out, the manager added.

When asked if the speculation had affected Stones, Martinez said: “Yes, but that’s something you improve on as you get more mature”.

Chelsea are interested however, and will look to tie up the transfer before the end of the window in September.

Mourinho, talking to TalkSport in the build-up to the new Premier League season, also addressed his incident with Arsène Wenger after Sunday’s Community Shield at Wembley, and admitted his concerns for striker Diego Costa’s fitness.

The Toffees are hoping to build from the disappointing Premier League campaign last year in which they finished 11th and their Europa League exploits played a big part in the poor performances domestically.

He said: “He didn’t finish the season and doesn’t start the season, and that doesn’t make me happy”. The situation with John is as you would expect.

‘Clearly he is a player that we admire, clearly that is going to be the same in other clubs. he told the Express.

“Romelu Lukaku will come good – he’s still a kid in my eyes – and a kid with a very good goals-to-games ratio”.

It’s certainly a fair point by Ferdinand and something I myself have mentioned in previous articles.
