Pence’s team has gotten word to start preparing to get the official nod Thursday, and the Trump campaign is now planning for the official nod Thursday, according to two sources familiar with the process.
Friday at noon is the deadline for Pence to make a decision about running for reelection as governor.
“The naming of Governor Mike Pence as his running mate is a homerun for Donald Trump”, Bozell stated. The news was quickly echoed by the Indianapolis Star and The New York Times, which reported Trump’s advisers had notified G.O.P. officials about the impending announcement.
The other leading contenders for the Republican running mate are New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
‘I mean, obviously, I’m a competitive person, ‘ Christie told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, a Republican analyst for the network.
“Until we are out of the theoretical zone we’re just not going to have a final decision on that”, Johnson said. He will be making a decision in the future…
And in a radio interview that aired Thursday, Trump told host Michael Savage that he hadn’t yet settled on a running mate. “3 great choices. Decision is my father’s alone to make!”
Donald Trump asked Mike Pence to be his running mate and the IN governor accepted, a source with direct knowledge tells ABC News.
Mr Pence, 57, a former congressman, is seen as a safe choice, not too flashy but popular among conservatives, with Midwestern appeal and the ability to rally more party faithful behind Mr Trump. He says it’s no secret he’s a big fan of Pence’s and holds him in very high regard. You get the distinct sense Hoosier Republicans are eager to hand him off to Trump so that can put a better candidate into the race to succeed him. I hope that (Trump) he picks a good movement conservative. “Clearly, Mike is one of those”. “I like Mike Pence”.
Pence had been widely named as one of the candidates on Trump’s shortlist. As governor, Pence accepted Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, and while in Congress supported a proposal to allow undocumented immigrants to benefit from a temporary guest-worker program.
U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-Springdale, also praised Pence. “The time has come for all of us to urge the swift adoption of the Trans Pacific Partnership”. “Governor Pence has brought up IN and he’s going to bring up Donald Trump also”, said Conrad Buitron of Munster.
Pence has been busy on Twitter in recent days – touting his accomplishments as governor.
Despite all signs pointing to Pence as Trump’s VP pick, Gingrich appeared to give a last-minute pitch for the job in a Facebook Live video on Thursday afternoon.

According to sources, Lesley Stahl got the plum first interview with Pence together with Trump, the soon-to-be GOP candidate for president. The interview came hours before David Samson, whom Christie appointed to chair the powerful Port Authority of NY and New Jersey, pleaded guilty to scheming to get United Airlines to run direct flights between New Jersey and SC where he has a vacation home.
