Firefighters work to stop spread of wildfire near Nederland

Cooler temperatures will make firefighting a little more comfortable for crews battling the Cold Spring fire, but humidity is still low and winds are predicted to be erratic. This is an active fire with fire crews still working in the area. According to Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle, speaking during a community meeting Monday afternoon, the fire is now moving east but that could change by Tuesday. Kuykendall and another man from Alabama have been arrested in connection with a wildfire that has destroyed at least three homes and three buildings north of Nederland in Boulder County.

Investigators say the fire began after the two men failed to properly put out a campfire. “The area is still a mandatory evacuation zone and residents should not be inside the zone”.

Both men have been booked and lodged at the Boulder County Jail. “‘Containment’ means they can very accurately say a certain amount of a fire will not spread”. 7 (St. Vrain Drive) west from Lyons to get to the Peak to Peak Highway from points north of Boulder.

Boulder Canyon remains closed from Sugarloaf Road to Nederland. More than 200 firefighters were deployed to fight the flames, aided by about a dozen aircraft.

There is a fire ban in place for all of Boulder County.

In northern Colorado, firefighters say a wildfire near the Wyoming border has burned another 1,000 acres, and they are warning that the fire could spread rapidly on Sunday because high winds are forecast.

Firefighters will still use their airplanes and helicopters but face random, illegal drone flights as one more hazard, said Megan Saylors, spokeswoman for a team of agencies fighting the 3.6-square-mile fire about 300 miles south of Salt Lake City.

In a briefing to media soon after announcing the arrests, Sheriff Joe Pelle told reporters that community tips had led police to Suggs and Kuykendall, who were seen at the Nederland Middle/Senior High School evacuation center on Saturday.

The Hayden Pass Fire has burned 12,012 acres and is zero percent contained, officials said Tuesday.
