UK Sport has invested £350 million of public money into elite sport since London 2012 and says between 47 and 79 medals can be achieved.

After a press preview on Monday of NBC’s Olympics coverage, Burke told the Los Angeles Times that the company has hit its sales target for the Rio Games, which he said will end up being be “the most profitable Olympics in history”. There was, however, no such incident prior and during the 2012 London Olympics.

Britain won six athletics medals at London 2012, including golds for Jessica Ennis-Hill, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford.

This will be one of the strongest Croatia teams at an Olympic Games with 9 Olympic medalists taking part during the Games which will be held in Rio from 6 – 21 August.
