France reels as Bastille Day attack leaves 84 dead in Nice

Wassim Bouhlel, a Nice native who spoke to the AP near Nice’s Promenade du Paillon, said that he saw a truck drive into the crowd and then witnessed the man emerge with a gun and start shooting.

Estrosi said some of the city’s 1,200 security cameras had pinpointed the moment the attacker boarded the truck, far from the seaside “in the hills of Nice” and could follow his path to the promenade.

“We will strengthen our cooperation with France and other countries in the fight against terrorism”, Mukherjee said in a series of tweets.

“We are very sorry and very much with the French people and the French government”, he said in at a meeting of Asian and European leaders in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar.

The state-run Kuwait News Agency said the ruling emir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, sent a cable of condolence to French President Francois Hollande over the assault.

Photographs from the scene show the vehicle’s windscreen riddled with gunshots.

‘Attacks aren’t prepared alone.

US President Barack Obama issued a statement condemning what he said appeared to be “a horrific terrorist attack”. ‘There is a chain of complicity.

He was said to be a resident of Nice, who was known to police in connection with theft and violence offences’.

“I wish to convey the deepest sympathies and condolences of my government and of the Filipino people to the government and people of France for the recent tragedy in Nice”, Yasay said.

“I saw bodies flying like bowling pins along its route.

Sheikh Sabah said Kuwait “supports all measures France might take to protect its security against the terrorist acts”.

“The terrorist character (of the attack) can not be denied, ” he said.

The UAE is part of the US -led coalition targeting the Islamic State group and hosts American and Western military personnel involved in the fight. And Nice has been at the center of the movement, home to one of the most prolific creators of jihadi recruiting videos for the French-speaking world, a former petty drug dealer named Omar Omsen who is now fighting in Syria.

Just hours after announcing in the traditional Bastille Day interview that the state of emergency, in place since November attacks that killed 130 in Paris, was to be removed, Hollande said it must be extended for three months. In March, the same Islamic State cell struck in Belgium.
