Rubio on track to roll over Democrat in November, poll shows

Marco Rubio’s lead over his Democratic rivals has grown into the double digits since he chose to run for re-election to the U.S. Senate, according to a new poll that shows – for now – the Republican incumbent isn’t being dragged down in Florida by presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Pat Toomey holds a 49 percent to 39 percent lead over Democratic challenger Katie McGinty. “Marco Rubio when he opted for a last-minute re-election bid in Florida, but he may be on the way to a last laugh, having quickly opened double-digit leads over both Democratic challengers”, said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University poll.

The poll shows that Sens. He leads Murphy 54-33 percent among men and 47-40 percent among women, with similar results in a Rubio-Grayson matchup.

Mr. Rubio, who still faces a primary challenger in businessman Carlos Beruff, led Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy by a 13-point, 50 percent to 37 percent margin.

Murphy, who has received the endorsement of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, has recently been criticized after local news reports showed discrepancies regarding his resume.

The Republican and Democratic U.S. Senate primaries will be held August 30.

“Democrats made fun of Sen”.

Independent voters back Rubio 51 – 32 percent.

In Ohio, meanwhile, Mr. Portman held a 7-point, 47 percent to 40 percent lead over Mr. Strickland.

The poll also shows Republicans in two other key swing states – OH and Pennsylvania – opening up large leads over Democrats, dispelling, at least for now, party leaders’ angst about presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s potential to hurt down-ballot candidates.

“The breadth of Sen. Rubio’s lead against Rep. Patrick Murphy, who has the backing of the Democratic leadership, is impressive”, said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Poll.

Almost 25 percent said they’re afraid of both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, and 75 percent said they’re motivated to vote this election year more because they are against a particular candidate instead of being for one. Republicans hold a 54-44-seat edge in the Senate, where there are two independents who caucus with Democrats.

Rubio, Portman and Toomey are running ahead of presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump in their home states.
