Corbyn backer switches allegiance to challenger Owen Smith

The motion, passed by union’s policy conference today, is seen as a thinly-veiled attempt to force more centrist politicians out of the party for good.

It follows a vote of “no-confidence” against Corbyn from MPs, and leadership challenges from Angela Eagle and Owen Smith.

Brentford & Isleworth Labour Party had been due to consider a motion in support of Corbyn before the meeting was cancelled against members’ wishes.

Michael Foster, who has given the party £400,000, said he was anxious rules had been bent so Mr Corbyn could defend his position without support from MPs.

“Current Labour supporters are split down the middle in their views, although just over half of them think the party should change its leader before the next election”.

And she said Labour must choose a leader “that can unite the party” to give it a chance of beating the Conservatives at the next general election. The Welshman hopes to persuade the leader’s supporters to switch sides by convincing he can lead a left-wing Labour into government.

A “WEALTHY DONOR” is affronting Labour’s entire membership by mounting a legal challenge against the decision to affirm Jeremy Corbyn’s right to automatic inclusion on the leadership ballot, John McDonnell said yesterday.

“If a worker was great at their job and liked by the people they worked for, would it be acceptable for the board of directors to make them reapply for their job because the masters and the investors didn’t like them”.

The dispute broke out as disagreements over voting rules for the contest rumbled on.

“If I were Len McCluskey I’d be more anxious about his own re-election campaign rather than sabre-rattling at Labour MPs”.

A Unite spokesman said: “This vote today simply reflects the enormous frustration that our members feel”.

Following weeks of turmoil in the wake of the European Union referendum result, which saw Mr Corbyn accused by some of not campaigning strongly enough for a Remain win, Mr Corbyn now faces two potential leadership challengers.
