Another happy surprise is that in addition to Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey, who have received nominations before, “Game of Thrones” stars Maisie Williams and Kit Harington each earned an acting nom for Season 6.

“Game of Thrones” and “Veep” are among the top contenders for the 68th prime-time Emmy Award nominations.

The show is in only its second season, and its star Anthony Anderson, who was nominated for best actor, was one of the presenters at the nomination ceremony this morning. The Funny or Die website was nominated twice in the short form category, matching two nominations previous year, while YouTube won three nominations, including one for “Her Story”.

Lead nominations went to Cuba Gooding Jr.as Simpson, Courtney B. Vance as defense attorney Johnnie Cochran and Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark. Such was the case in 2002, when FX became the first basic cable channel to win a top Emmy Award – Michael Chiklis’ best drama actor trophy for “The Shield” – and earned unprecedented cachet. Max von Sydow also earned a Guest Actor nod for his role as the Three-Eyed Raven.

Ulster County resident and Academy Award victor Melissa Leo was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for portraying Lady Bird Johnson in “All The Way”.

For Stephen Colbert, it was the inaugural season of his CBS late-night show that was overlooked, while network colleague James Corden earned a best variety talk series bid for his “Late Late Show”. Bryan Cranston is also nominated for his role as former United States president Lyndon B Johnson in Sky Atlantic’s film All The Way.

Elba, who is now starring in the Hollywood blockbuster Star Trek Beyond, said he planned to celebrate his Emmy nomination with a trip to the pub. But perhaps the most surprising of the snubs is that of HBO’s desegregation miniseries Show Me a Hero, which featured an incredible performance from Oscar Isaac. My publicist told me, you’ve just been nominated, so I just found out. “It’s a good feeling”.

The choices for outstanding drama series looked familiar with “Game of Thrones”, “Better Call Saul”, “Downton Abbey“, “Homeland”, “House of Cards” and “Mr. Robot” while fans were thrilled with this year’s inclusion of “The Americans“.

(The series and several of its stars won nominations this year as well.) That same year, the Web series “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” also won an Emmy for creative achievement in interactive media, the first time a YouTube series won that kind of traditional accolade. On the TV movie side, the nominees areA Very Murray Christmas, All the Way, Confirmation, Luther, and Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.
