Donald Trump Has Reportedly Selected Mike Pence as His VP

As the Inquisitr previously detailed, while Trump and Pence may have chemistry after spending time with each other on the campaign trail and in a more private setting, the low-key in governor disagrees with some of the NY real estate mogul’s views, including his position on global trade – such as opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership – and a temporary ban on Muslim immigrants. According to The Hill, some Democrats in the U.S. Senate “freaked out” over positive Trump polls in battleground states during a private meeting today with Hillary Clinton in Washington.

The veepstakes had reportedly centered on three names in recent days: Pence, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

After spending much of Thursday in Indianapolis, Pence flew to NY, according to a Republican familiar with the process. Indianapolis television station WTHR posted a video showing Pence arriving at a private airport outside NY early Thursday evening.

Donald Trump is on the verge of picking his vice presidential running mate, with top contenders on standby Thursday afternoon for the Republican nominee’s decision.

Top party officials are already in Cleveland, grappling with a rules fight that could increase the odds of nationally televised clashes at the convention.

“We’ve cut costs, lowered taxes & reduced regulations to allow job creators to invest in what matters most – in their businesses & employees”, tweeted the former House member, who was elected governor four years ago. The hope of these advocates of “freeing the delegates” is that, once unbound and free to oppose Trump, they would deny the presumptive nominee a majority on the floor of the convention and force a second ballot.

Donald Trump’s apparent choice for a running mate is perhaps more important for who it is not than for who it is.

Trump’s family and close political advisers formed an inner circle to vet and guide the candidate.

Once again, Donald Trump has shocked us all by apparently choosing the most boring possible running mate.

Trump, who spent Thursday morning fundraising in California, has said he will officially announce his decision Friday in New York City.

Once it’s clear who will be vying for the Republican nomination, the committee must provide a 10-day notice before it votes.

In a brief interview with The Associated Press Friday morning, Gingrich said he had still not been told by Trump that he would not be the choice. He has called himself “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order”.

After saying he was primarily self-funding his campaign during the Republican primaries, Trump has been holding fundraisers during the general election, with support from the Republican National Committee. IN law stipulated he had to decide by Friday whether he wanted to run for governor or for vice president, as he can not run for both. However, the documents have not been filed, according to the Republican, who insisted on anonymity because that person was not authorized to publicly discuss Pence’s plans. He said Trump was planning on making an announcement this weekend.

Hurting Christie’s chances yesterday, former Port Authority of NY and New Jersey Chairman David Samson, a Christie confidant, pleaded guilty to bribery for using his position to coerce United Airlines to create a direct flight to his SC summer home. He added that while some conservatives might feel that Pence caved in to pressure by vetoing a bill guaranteeing religious freedom, it likely won’t be a deal-breaker for most.
