We have shared the trailer for the first season of Mr. Robot below. “You see all of them stepping outside of themselves and finding some strength, deep down, to elicit some type of change in the world they live in”. Sadly, it’s also nothing more than a fantasy in Mr. Robot.

But Elliot’s new regimented, tech-free lifestyle is giving him more control than he had last season. But then the group backs out for an undisclosed reason, and Elliot pays Whiterose a visit where she alludes to a “vulnerability” in the group that prevented her from going forward.

Desperate to start all over again and gain control of his life, Elliot tries his hardest to beat his mental illness and beat Mr. Robot. New characters in the second run include rapper Joey Bada$$ as Leon, a friend of Elliot’s. These are metaphorical bullets, the most pretentious of all bullets. What can you do?

That ambiguity extends beyond just Elliot and the questionable ways Mr. Robot wants to achieve his goals.

I’m never trying to break the rules for the sake of breaking rules. She wants them to burn.

Warning: please note that this article contains Mr. Robot spoilers this week’s episode. Those metaphorical bullets are working I guess. The Dark Army is a kind of hack-for-hire group, without a grand, sweeping vision for revolution like fsociety.

Elliot later finds himself blacking out and when he comes to, he’s on the phone. On the other line is Tyrell, alive and waiting to talk. What are your hopes for Elliot and Darlene? The loss was so great that the E Corp. As humiliating a spectacle as that is, Darlene seems to wonder what was truly accomplished. They have become complacent and weak. She’s both jaded and idealistic, and is eager to use fsociety’s smarts to take down the corporations that exert so much power on the world’s citizens. Darlene succeeds too by threatening the executive’s life if he doesn’t comply with her demands. As the whole display goes down “Take Me Home” by Phil Collins inexplicably and awesomely plays in the background. All acts of protest, hacktivism and any manner of public political statements should be accompanied by Phil Collins and/or Genesis. With time jumps, hallucinations, and new characters coming and going with little to no introduction, it’s confusing. She was recruited to work in public relations for E Corp and we suspected that she would work from within to bring down the company. Is she infiltrating Evil Corp to help fsociety, or is it the other way around?

The bigger mystery starting off in Season two is the location of Tyrell Wellick.

“That’s one of the most rewarding aspects of this show is there have been people who have reached out to me who are alienated, who are dealing with something mentally and so many ways this character relates to them”, he said.

Lastly, Mr. Robot trots out Elliot’s boss Gideon who is being blamed for the Evil Corp hack. Now that everything for him is in the gutter, he is even more of a downer. Eschewing traditional framing, his compositions are often off-kilter and he holds a shot for much longer than you would expect, heightening the tension. Mr. Robot checks all the important boxes: slickly made, with propulsive plotting, anti-hero psychodrama, and even some weird sex stuff thrown in for good measure.
