Labour Party to decide if Jeremy Corbyn runs for leadership by default
Former shadow cabinet ministers Angela Eagle and Owen Smith are likely to be the main challengers, but Mr Callaghan has vowed not to campaign in a contest involving Mr Corbyn. I think we now need a real debate about the future direction of our party.

“To ensure democratic accountability and the rights of party members to select candidates that reflect their views, conference supports the need for mandatory reselection of Labour MPs in each Parliament as essential”.
Corbyn was most recently criticized over perceptions he ran a lackluster “remain” campaign ahead of June’s European Union membership referendum and overwhelmingly lost a vote of confidence among Labour lawmakers last month.
Yasmin Qureshi has refused to state whether she will continue to support under-fire Labour boss Jeremy Corbyn in any upcoming leadership battle.
Mr Smith and Ms Eagle were set to face a ballot of MPs and MEPs after they address the parliamentary Labour Party at hustings next Monday, the BBC reported.
He accused him of being prepared to see the party split after shrugging in a meeting about the prospect of such a division – an account denied by the Labour leadership.
“But I hope and I expect it will be me”.
“We will be campaigning on all the things that matter”.
Tens of thousands of union members may be banned from voting in Labour’s closely fought leader’s election, party sources have confirmed.
She said there should be no legal challenge to the NEC’s decision but warned that Labour risks electoral wipeout in the north at the hands of Ukip, similar to that it has suffered in Scotland if Mr Corbyn remains leader.
There was good news for the Labour leader, after the party’s ruling National Executive Committee ruled he would automatically be included in the ballot.
“I’m in this contest to win it and that’s what I intend to do”.
He said in Labour they described themselves as “comrades” and insisted “most of it comes from people who have no association with the Labour Party”.
When Mr Corbyn was elected leader, he secured 59.5% of the vote in the first round after a surge in support from registered supporters.

Eagle called on Corbyn to rein in his supporters, saying attacks such as the vandalising of her office were “being done in his name, and he needs to get control of the people who are supporting him and make certain that this behaviour stops and stops now”.
