Beyonce scores four Emmy nominations for ‘Lemonade’
Beyoncé already has an abundant collection of Grammys from her musical work over the years – in fact, she’s been nominated more times than any other musician- so that’s one category down.

Since Lemonade’s debut, Bey has toured the world in support of her sixth solo studio album, which boasts tracks like “Formation”, “Freedom”, and “Sorry”.
Beyoncé and Adele are among the nominees announced this morning for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Beyoncé’s “Lemonade”, her album that was accompanied with an HBO special featuring music videos for each track, earned nominations for outstanding variety special and outstanding directing for a variety special, which she shares with co-director Khalil Joseph. Lemonade, for all its accolades and cultural relevance, aired the night of April 23, well after the cutoff date, meaning it would be eligible for nominations in 2017.
Carter received an Emmy nom for her legendary Super Bowl halftime show (which I STILL believe resulted in a power outage from the fiercness), and her On the Run HBO special in 2015.
Beyonce is also competing against comedian Chris Rock in the Outstanding Direction category, where he is nominated for his efforts behind the camera on “Amy Schumer: Live At The Apollo”.

Why, if it was released outside the nomination eligibility period, was Lemonade nominated for four Emmys this year instead of next?
